SKDC economic summit – what happened and what happens now?

From Councillor Matthew Lee. the Leader of South Kesteven District Council, following the recent SKDC Economic Summit.

“Thank you to everyone that came to our economic summit at Stoke Rochford Hall on Monday.

We were delighted by the excellent response to our invitations and had more than 180 guests on the night, including many businesspeople. We have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback we have received.

I would particularly like to thank Ursula Lidbetter MBE, Chair of the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership and Mark Reeve, Chair of Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough LEP for their insightful and thought-provoking speeches.

For those who could not attend, I explained the need to stop talking about change and start delivering it.

I was therefore delighted to begin the process by announcing our plans to invest £40 million in a series of strategic projects across the district, which are to be underway or completed by the end of 2020.

Important though this investment is, it is dwarfed by the overall benefit it will have in our district in the coming years. We estimate that our original investment will grow the local economy by £400 million over the next three years and go on to be worth as much as £1.2 billion by 2040.

Now the hard work of delivery begins. Key to our success is our new inward investment team, InvestSK, led by Steve Bowyer and colleagues from SKDC. The InvestSK team will make it easier for private businesses to engage with SKDC and will play a vital role in supporting businesses already in our district – and attracting many new ones.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact InvestSK via its website, www.investsk.co.uk.

I look forward to updating you on our progress in the weeks and months ahead.”
